The deep-rooted cultural traditions that the Asians had even when they migrated to the West included their concern for the right food and right taste.
Our Management had a vision, as it were, to identify the predicament our people had in experimenting with European style of meals soon after they went in exodus following the ethnic calamity of July 1983.
We took this opportunity to serve them in need and ventured into a commercial understanding. Knowing their food requirements we air- freighted these items to the UK, France, Germany, Norway, Italy, Zurich, Australia and Canada. These weekly transportation of consignments such as fruits, vegetables, cereals, kitchen utensils, news papers and other domestic needs were readily accepted by Sri Lankans abroad at this juncture. Other Asian communities like the Indians, Pakistanis and Bagladeshis stood to enjoy this facility.
It took us nearly three years as trial period in our effort to satisfy our clients. And we did a wide market survey in Europe and engaged in food production in full swing. We established a centre in 1986 with the guidance of expertise advice from state institutions and equipped ourselves with a new range of machinery for production. This up-to-date production process led to containerized cargo export. This facilitated better and economical market facility to the importers and consumers alike. We made use of the airfreight for urgent purposes like religious festivals, weddings and annual Asian festivals.
Within a fourteen years of continuous export production we are now in a position to produce almost 100 items of food products under the trade name Rabeena. And our products are world at large as it is now in Australia & Canada through our closely-knit dealer network.
